Uses

A /uses page, because I've gotten enough out of other people's to owe one back. This is what's actually in front of me, not what I'd recommend.

Machines

  • ThinkPad T14, Debian stable. Third ThinkPad in a row; I've stopped evaluating.
  • A desktop with 64 GB of RAM whose only real job is running database clusters in containers so I can break them.
  • A small VPS that serves this site and nothing else.

Software

  • Editor — Neovim. Though honestly, a good share of the working day happens in psql.
  • Shell — zsh, tmux, fzf. The tmux config has survived four laptops.
  • Terminal — foot on Wayland. Fast, boring, no opinions.
  • Notes — plain text files in a git repo. Every system I've tried that was better than this was worse within a year.
  • Diagrams — a notebook, then Inkscape when it has to be shared.

Desk

  • A Realforce with 45 g uniform switches. I tried a split ergonomic board for four months and went back, which I'm told is a failure of character.
  • One 27-inch monitor. I've had two and three; one is better.
  • Wired headphones, so there is nothing to charge.

Outside

  • A steel commuter with an internally geared hub, fenders, and studded tires from November to March.
  • Pogies. See the winter post.
